Community-Based Tourism and Empowerment

Community-based Tourism (CBT) has emerged as an important way for destination communities to benefit from travelers. Indonesia has embraced CBT and many villages offer tourism experiences to visitors. CBT appeals to community leaders as it is seen to be a way to ensure the benefits of tourism are distributed within the village. Despite the popularity of CBT, many questions remain about the impact of this activity on hosts. This research examines the impacts of participating in CBT on feelings of psychological empowerment.
